We are building a new house soon and I am researching windows. I've talked to one builder who only uses Weather Shield windows. I've seen others from Jeld-Wen and Kolbe. Does anyone have a particular brand they prefer over another? If so, why? FYI, I'm looking for nicer, wood or wood-clad windows, double paned, no vinyl.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Jeld-Wen is a popular brand,..... and from what ive heard they stand behind their product. I havent heard of WeatherSheild. Stay away from Andersen at all costs..... only factory reps can service their windows, at their convenience. Wood windows may cost more than vinyl, Im not sure. But compare the price difference. Vinyl is virtually maintaince free whereas wood you will have to paint every so often. Advice, use a good wood primer and topcoat with latex enamel if you chose wood. Latex wont yellow like oil based will. And if you have unvented gas logs oil base trim paint yellows twice as fast.
Also, make SURE someone caulks the outside of the windows. I came across a house last week that hadnt ever been caulked outside. It was about 14 years old, on the Colbert side of Lake Wilson. They had mold in the house because the windows werent caulked. I could actually see the housewrap below the windows, where the brick ledges were. Water was coming in underneath the windows....
