"Midnight at the Oasis" was performed and popularized by Maria Muldaur in 1973, and which was likely the true beginning her career (although she had nearly ten years experience then).

It is the song for which she is best known, because of it's highly evocative (yet not explicit) sensuality. (Would that such tastefully written lyrics would again emerge, rather than the blatancy which passes as "romance" today.)

It's a love song, and she has such a luscious voice!

If you have heard of David Grisman or Bob Dylan, then you should be at least familiar with some of her work, because the they all collaborated at one time or another in the 1960's.

Hey there, I wasn't trying to dis the song. I like the song, it's just not a Christmas song.

I absolutely can not stand "Auld Lang Syne" by Dan Folgeburg. It's NOT a CHRISTMAS SONG FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!! It's a song about two people who happen to run into each other on Christmas Eve. Has nothing to do with Christmas but they want to play it all the time like it is!!!

Sorry, didn't mean to go off on a rant. Smiler

At least it mentions Christmas, which is more than "My Favorite Things" does, and gets played as a Christmas song Roll Eyes

Last Christmas

Last Christmas = Most repetitive song ever?

I don't understand why these young whippersnappers (that's right, I called 'em that) keep remaking that blasted song the last couple of years.

... i was going to call you that since you weren't alive in the 60's...lol

These kids that are remaking the song (Ashley Tisdale and Taylor Swift - I swear I couldn't pick either of them out of a lineup) are the musicians that my kids like. That makes me officially disqualified from being a whippersnapper, and I'm now allowed to use the term myself AND eat at the grown-ups table at Thanksgiving.

That's true. I've also wondered why they play that song at Christmas time -over and over and over.....

I think maybe that became a Christmas song when Barbra Streisand put it on her Christmas album, the one with the crazy version of Jingle Bells.

I thought of another dreadful one: Hey Santa by Wilson Phillips.

I HATE THAT ONE!
It's on "heavy rotation" with XM and commerically. The absolute worst song ever and it is played every hour.
Okay, this one could go either way.

I heard it on the way in this morning and had to look it up. I kind of enjoyed it (you do have to listen to the whole thing to appreciate it) but I can see it having the potential to become annoying in a hurry if given too much airplay. It gets good at about a minute and is probably best from there to the end.

Give it a listen...
