While we have everybody's attention on the cemetery flowers ..... Please check gravesites following stormy, windy weather. Flowers blown from graves are a common site and it's anybody's guess as to where they belong.
Also, please remove old, worn and faded flowers which disgrace the entire cemetery. Better no flowers than those neglected and ruined.

I know that "I" go down to the cemetery at least twice a week and especially after heavy winds and storms to make sure they haven't blown away. I have changed the flowers on my sons grave 3 times since his funeral. Once, in October for Fall, once in December for Christmas and a few days ago for when my due date was for him. There is no way I would leave worn and torn flowers on his grave...but that is me though.
I was at a church not long ago and some of the flowers had blown from the tombstones. We were picking the flowers up, and noticed that people had put the names of the deceased on the bottom of some of the arrangements.

Such a smart idea, and I had never really thought of it. Sometimes when they blow off, even if someone is there to pick them up there is no way to know which grave they belong to.

My grandmother's flowers used to get stolen every year. The decoration at that cemetery is early in the 'decoration season', and I know that someone was taking her flowers and putting them on a grave somewhere else. When she was alive, she would have given anything she had to anyone who asked her. We are not as selfless as she was, though. So we no longer put an arrangement on the stone...just in the vases. People don't seem to want to mess with the vase arrangements.

And there are actually people who want to say that human beings are 'basically good'.
No reminder needed here. My mom changes my Dad's flowers for the holidays and also in between. The church across from the cemetery always tells me that they look on Sundays to see what pretty flowers that mom has on my Dad's grave because she keeps in decorated so nice. She says that's the only thing she has left that she can do for him and they always celebrated EVERY holiday BIG between them. It didn't matter if it was St. Patrick's day or Christmas they did something. It might just be a note in his lunch sack or a phone call from work for her but they recognized the holidays so she feels flowers for his grave is a way to continue that tradition. I still celebrate with her the way he did to carry on his tradition. It's just a family thing I guess.
My father & mother-in-laws arrangements have been stolen a couple times.
It really made me mad that someone would do this, not to mention the money I had paid Bill's Florist to make them, so I replaced them with razor blades strategically placed & wired in the arrangements.
Either no one has attempted to steal them anymore, or they tried & decided not to, but they haven't been stolen again.
It's unfortunate that you have to go to this extent to keep loved one's flowers on their graves. Just call me determined!

I also didnt see any reason for this thread to remind us .
I'm sorry, if I made it sound like I was the only who removed old flowers, that is not how I meant it. I was just speaking for myself. Smiler

I don't think Mrs. Rabbit knew about your son. She wouldn't say that if she was aware of the circumstances. She is a good person who makes me laugh a lot.

Mrs. Rabbit was only being protective of you TigerMom with everything you have been through recently. I think you must have just misread her comment. You will see that us regular gals on the forum, well, we look out for our girls! Wink
Oh no, I completely understand. I just didn't want her to think that I was being rude or anything by my first reply, so that is why I replied again quoting her. Sometimes, I am not good at putting in words what I am thinking, lol! I really, really appreciate people looking out for me, it means alot! Smiler
