Dedication of granite map downtown | Tennessee Valley Talks

Although not covered by the TimesDaily, there was a very nice dedication ceremony yesterday on the corner of Court and Tennessee Streets of a 4' by 6' granite replica of the F. Sannonner map of Florence. It was dedicated to Hester Cope, first director of the Florence Main Street Project. The mayor, some councilmen, county commissioner Larry Irones, and about 25 other people were there. It is planted in the sidewalk on SW corner. Everyone should take a look at it.
They said it was Shaler Roberts' idea and was paid for by the sale of the historic homes calendars.

Thanks for mentioning this, I had not heard anything about it. As someone working in the geography field, I am interested to see this. I have a framed copy of what may be this same map. When I get a chance to come home I'll have to go down there.
