When parents won't be parents, children are robbed of childhood. And they often grow up trying to meet everyone's else's needs, feeling they can only beloved for what they accomplish. Kids should be kids, not professional sports greats, nor the best in a beauty pageant, nor having their lives rob from enjoying their youth. I get so sick and tired of watching parents scream at some kid because he/she did not score a touchdown, or hit a homerun, or win at any sports, i.e. let kids be kids http://www.ifilm.com/video/2790606

what kills me are the parents who let their kids play in the street, and get mad at you for wanting to drive down the street and interrupt their play time. its a daily thing on my street. one little girl will stand her ground in the middle of the street and dare you to hit her. I pull up as close as possible and lay on the horn, little hag!!!
I so agree with you bluesman. We worked with foster kids and day care kids. We took in family and strays of all ages. The one common ground, with all of these kids...they just wanted to be kids. They wanted to be loved, feel safe, and be kids. Too many kids today are just another possession of mom and dad. They are expected to preform a certain way, and accomplish a certain amount of goals. Look a certain way. Trophy children. It is no wonder that they are searching everywhere for love and acceptence. Most of what goes on with mom and dad, if for mom and dad. It has very little to do with the children. I too, feel sorry for them.

it must be a muscle shoals thing. Mad
No, it's the same idea that you see when people walk in front of you to cross the street. Or won't move when your car is coming directly at them. I was driving slowly down our street in Decatur once. There were about eight black teenagers just lollygagging along blocking the entire street. I rolled down my window and said, "For Pete's sake, move out of the way!" One of the dipshi**s said, "We're pedestrians we have the right away!" and I told him, "I'm driving a 1979 Buick Roadmaster station wagon and I'm going home RIGHT NOW. Put, But I had the right of way on your headstone. See how it revives your dead ass!". They moved. I like to think it sank in (perhaps shallowly considering the density of the skull) to one of them and maybe kept him from getting splattered on the median at some point.

Pedestrians do have the right of way, but the respectful thing to do is cross quickly. When I'm crossing a parking lot, I walk quick, but you'll stop for me.

The kids on our street do a good job of moving when they see us. I still drive very slow just in case, but they always move out of the way. It all comes down to how you're raised. Some are taught respect for others, some are not.

AMEN! My daughter's ex-boyfriend was a VERY promising baseball player. The Cubs were actively scouting him. He was 600/185 and had a 90mph fast ball. Did I memtion he was LEFT-handed? In spite of his BEST efforts, he COULD NOT pitch a 'perfect game'....for his dad. He eventually threw away a FULL scholarship because of his dad's CONSTANT #@$%&ing.... Roll Eyes

sorry parents breed sorry kids. its not PC, but its the truth!

My family lives in a culdesac and my children ride their bikes and scooters in the street. There are only 3 other homes on the street. I certainly am not looking for a "chunk of change" by allowing them to ride their bike. The only way I would be able to sue someone is if they hit or injure my child. I assure you there is NO amount of money that is worth having my child get hurt. We lived in an apartment the entire time I was in college and they really looked forward to us getting a HOME so they could ride bikes etc. Where should children ride their bikes? It is a safe environment for them without traffic but they are considerate of our neighbors. I must dodge and wait on the couples in our neighborhood that walk and ride their bikes on the main streets and I dont mind. Everyone is just enjoying themselves.
I have seen plenty of GREAT parents who loves, nurtures and takes care of their children have "kids gone wrong"... no matter what they do...

Even Preacher Kids go wrong... and they are raised right.... arent they???

So who is the judge of all this??? Some kids are just going to do what they want, when they want and how they want, no matter how good a raising they got....

Everyone here has seen families with several children, all raised the same, with the same rules... and each one turn out different... and sometimes criminally different... and we keep blaming parents... when sometimes it is NOT the parent, but the society that helps good turn bad.
It's not just parents, it is society. Look at the clothes. You cannot buy clothes for a kid that looks like a kid. My 8 yo granddaughter and I went shopping for clothes for her recently. We couldn't find anything. Even she finally said, "everything either looks like a baby or it looks like a ****". (not sure where she learned that word) But it is the truth...and the role models that kids have today leave a lot to be desired, as well.

VERY VERY well said!!! But with kids these days... and all the laws concerning raising them.... it still is DANGED if they do, DANGED if they don't.
How about on my road where we have ATVs being driven by a parent with two kids sitting on the front with his wife power walking in front of the machine. It is usually dusky dark or later. No helmets, public road, not street. fast traffic
and lot of speed. This is a main road people and you are daresome to report anyone. These folks are teachers. Why do kids flaunt the law, because they are taught to do so. As far as old geezers we were raised to respect our elders and we heeded their advice. Thank you very much!

Usually it's the cops who flaunt the law. I take it these people flauted it. If they are on a public street/road, call the cops. They will be ticketed and have to go to court.
